Congratulations to Newport senior Malaya Medrano for being featured in Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s new Take Action Gallery.  The Take Action Gallery features stories from around the world of people creating change to better their communities. Medrano’s story of volunteerism is showcased in the gallery as an interactive multimedia exhibit. She is the only youth being featured in the Take Action Gallery and one of only two individuals from Washington being highlighted.

Medrano has been working with the Gates Foundation for more than five years. She primarily focuses on community outreach, devising methods to increase youth awareness surrounding important global issues, and designing activities, events and programs that inspire youth, especially teens, to Take Action!

Medrano will be honored by the Foundation at the launch party of the Take Action Gallery on Nov. 2 at the Foundation’s Discovery (Visitor) Center.

The Take Action exhibit is currently running, and will be open for several months.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
