Congratulations to Laurissa Lam, a senior at Newport High School, who was selected as a winner for the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT) National Award for Aspirations in Computing!  She will attend an award ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina to accept her award, $500, a laptop and an engraved award for Newport.  This is the first time a student from Newport has been a national winner.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing builds a talent pool for the growing technical workforce and helps academic and corporate organizations celebrate diversity in computing by honoring young women at the high school level for their computing related achievements and interests.  Recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, leadership ability, academic history and plans for post-secondary education.
