Attention 7 and 8th grade Tyee Students! Are you interested in science, or want to learn more about science? Do you want to compete against people in fields like Physics, Anatomy, Fossils, Oceanography or find interest in learning more about our Solar System or the Bugs populating our earth?  If so, then come join the Science Olympiad Club! For more information, come to our first meeting during activities on Tuesday, November 4th in room 1310 Mrs. Mirzanian’s classroom.

 

Kurt Vonnegut’s tips for creative writing #2: Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for. Who do YOU root for? Come to Creative Writing Club and rediscover your inspiration! Next meeting is this Thursday, October 30th, in room 1208.

GUIDELINES FOR A SUCCESSFUL

"COSTUME" SPIRIT DAY

Friday, October 31st

 

*Items 1-4 are not allowed at school and will be confiscated and returned to parents only.

 

1.*    WEAPONS AND/OR DANGEROUS OBJECTS

         knives, swords, spears, throwing stars, numchucks, sharp objects, chains, look-alike weapons or dangerous objects or any item that can be used in a dangerous or threatening way

 

         NOTE:  The consequences for the possession of a weapon are emergency expulsion and police contact.  The consequences for the possession of a working, non-working or look-alike firearm are expulsion and police contact.  As you plan your costume, if you have any questions, ask a Tyee staff member for guidance.

 

2.*    SPRAY ITEMS

         Ÿhair color in spray cans

         Ÿspray string in cans

         Ÿany other aerosol can that is used in a disruptive or unsafe manner

 

3.*    MASKS/COSTUME HOODS

         Ÿno masks or costume hoods that cover or partially cover your face

Ÿno masks or costume hoods that impair your ability to see and/or hear, or impair another's ability to see and/or hear you.

No beard.

 

4.*    HATS/WIGS

         Ÿno hats allowed by themselves, like a baseball cap but no uniform

         Ÿhats that are a part of the costume (i.e., clown hat, cowboy hat) may be worn if they do not impair your ability to see and/or hear, or impair another's ability to see and/or hear you.

         Ÿwigs may be worn that follow the guidelines for masks/costume hoods

 

5.      MAKE-UP

         Ÿno blood or gore-type make-up

         Ÿcostume make-up is to be applied prior to arrival at school

 

6.      SHOES

         shoes must be worn at all times

 

AS ALWAYS, THE TYEE MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DETERMINE IF A STUDENT'S CLOTHING AND/OR COSTUME IS DISRUPTIVE AND DETRIMENTAL TO THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS.  WE ALSO RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DETERMINE THE NEED TO CHANGE CLOTHES OR AMEND A COSTUME.

THE TYEE STAFF ENCOURAGES EVERYONE TO SHOW THEIR THUNDERBIRD SPIRIT IN FOLLOWING THE ABOVE GUIDELINES IN A WAY THAT PROMOTES FUTURE SPIRIT
