Updates on Interlake High School

Updated 2/27/15 at 3:31pm
Thank you for your support this morning as we worked with Bellevue Police to keep our students safe and our campus secure.  I am writing to provide you with details of the events that occurred.

Just prior to the start of school, administrators were notified of an anonymous threat of a school shooting on our campus.  We immediately locked down the campus as a precautionary measure. We closed the campus for the remainder of the day while the investigation continues. Parents were notified of the planned school closure shortly thereafter.

As classrooms were released, administrators conducted a cursory search of each student and their backpacks. Students were then evacuated off campus and Bellevue Police conducted a security sweep.

All afternoon and evening activities are cancelled.  The talent show scheduled for tonight and Saturday night is rescheduled for next weekend.  The dance-a-thon will be rescheduled.

This is an on-going investigation.  If your student has any information regarding this or other threats, please call 911. We will send an update with additional information next week.

Situations of this nature can be alarming and upsetting to students and staff.  I want to assure you that our entire staff, district and the community take student safety very seriously. On Monday, when we return to campus, we will have extensive supports in place at school, including additional security, as well as counselors who will be available to speak with students about their feelings and concerns.

Thank you for your continued support.  Students did a terrific job of remaining calm and following directions from staff.   If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Interlake will be open for community use this weekend.
All school sponsored events are cancelled.

Thank you for your patience. All Interlake High students and staff are safe. At this time the District and the Bellevue Police Department have made the decision to close Interlake High for the remainder of the school day and to release students.

Students will be released as follows:

  • Students who utilize Metro or are picked up by parents/guardians will be bused to Highland Middle School.  Students that take Metro will then get on a Metro bus from Highland to home.  Students that are typically picked up by a parent/guardian will be picked up by the parent/guardian or an individual on the emergency contact at Highland.
  • Students who drive a personal vehicle will be escorted to the parking lot and allowed to leave campus.
  • Students who walk home will be escorted off campus and allowed to walk home.
  • Students enrolled in the Transition or PACIFIC programs will be bused to Highland and parents will be contacted.

Parents and guardians at this time should NOT arrive to Interlake High School to pick up a student.  Instead, if picking up a student, the parent should report to Highland Middle School, located at 15027 NE Bel-Red Road, Bellevue.

We anticipate that releasing students will be a slow process as classrooms will be released one at a time.

As a precautionary measure, Interlake was placed in lockdown this morning at the start of the school day. At this point, instruction is resuming though Interlake will remain in lockdown, meaning that classroom doors will remain locked and students will remain in the classroom. Know that students and staff are safe and police and security are onsite. We will continue to update you as more information is available.
