ELL / MLL Services in the Bellevue School District
Introduction to BSD’s Multilingual Learners (MLL) Programs Models
All eligible English Language Learners (ELLs) / Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs) are served by ELL-endorsed teachers and facilitators in their home schools. ELL / MLL support consists of the following:
ELL / MLL Facilitation Grades K-5:
- Provides inclusion supports for ELLs/MLLs through tailored instructional guidance specific to school and classroom needs, which may include:
- Joint planning for lessons and units
- Curriculum mapping and alignment
- Co-developing instructional materials
- Collaborative assessment of student work
- Cycles of co-teaching
- Using the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework to scaffold language instruction by content areas
- Organizes and supports state-required testing specific to language development
- Leads building-level professional development that is specific to language development
- Develops appropriate ELL/MLL instructional strategies to support K-5 students in successfully meeting academic standards
- Serves as a member of the core team of decision-making professionals in the school environment to advocate and support ELLs/MLLs and their families
- Organizes and involves families in school events
- Serves as case manager for building ELLs/MLLs
- Short-term instructional intervention specific to language development
ELL / MLL Facilitation Grades6-12:
- Provides inclusion supports for ELLs/MLLs through tailored instruction and guidance specific to school and classroom needs, which may include: :
- Specialized course instruction
- Joint lesson and unit planning
- Curriculum mapping and alignment
- Co-developing instructional materials
- Collaborative assessment of student work
- Cycles of co-teaching
- Using the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework to scaffold language instruction
- Organizes and supports state-required language development testing
- Leads building-level professional development that is specific to language development
- Develops appropriate ELL/MLL instructional strategies to support 6-12 students in successfully meeting academic standards
- Serves as a member of the core team of decision-making professionals in the school environment to advocate and support ELLs/MLLs and their families
- Organizes and involves families in school events
- Serves as case manager for building ELLs/MLLs
