Summer Meals and Grocery Programs

Free Summer Meals for children ages 18 and under will be available starting July 6, 2026, at two school locations. Children may participate in the meal offerings at either school regardless of their age. Those over 18 may purchase meals: breakfast $3.75; lunch $5.75. Cash only.

SUN Bucks Grocery Program

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a program that helps families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Summer EBT / SUN Bucks 2026

What are SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a program that helps families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get a one-time $120 benefit per year for each eligible child to help buy groceries during the summer months. SUN Bucks benefits are in addition to other summer Child Nutrition Programs already offered.

Over 600,000 Washington children received SUN Bucks over the summer of 2025.

Who is eligible for SUN Bucks?

Some children will be automatically eligible for SUN Bucks, while others will need to apply. Students may be automatically eligible for Summer EBT if they:

Are enrolled at a school that offers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) and qualify through a meal application; or
Are age 8–18 and are a member of a household that receives benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Students who do not qualify automatically can apply by submitting a free or reduced-price meal application. To qualify for SUN Bucks, these students must:

Be enrolled at a school that participates in the NSLP or SBP, and
Live in a household that meets NSLP Income Eligibility Guidelines to qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

Student Technology Collection Spring 2026

The BSD Technology Services department will be collecting district devices for annual maintenance and reimaging. Find out what to do before the start of summer vacation.

Please note: All student data will be deleted from the devices collected, so please save files to OneDrive. If students need help backing up their data, they may contact their school's technology specialist.

Elementary

This year we will collect ALL the elementary laptops and iPads at the end of this school year. We ask for the devices to be returned to school and placed into the classroom charging carts by Friday, June 12, 2026. This will give the Tech Specialist a week to check in and inventory these items before the last day of school. Please ask students to return any chargers and styluses.

All student laptops will be reimaged this summer and returned to elementary schools.
All iPads should be returned to schools and stored in classroom carts.

Secondary

This year we will be collecting laptops from all grade levels.

Secondary students in grades 8 and 12 will be required to return their laptops, chargers, and styluses.
Secondary students in grades 6 through 11 will be required to turn in their laptops with the styluses in the stylus bay, or they will be considered lost. It is recommended that students keep their chargers in a secure and safe place over summer.

Running Start Students

Students attending Running Start can return their laptop after finals between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at:

All students who miss the turn-in day at their school will need to return their laptops, chargers and styluses at the Helpdesk address above no later than June 26, 2026.

Summer Health Resources and Immunization Information

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on important health requirements and ensure your student is ready for the upcoming school year. Here are some important reminders and resources.

For help with school health requirements or submitting health records, contact your school nurse.

Back-to-School Immunization Requirements

New students enrolling in any grade must provide immunization records. Washington State law (RCW 28A.210.060, RCW 28A.210.080, and WAC 246.105.030) and Bellevue School District Policy 3413 require students to be properly immunized against certain diseases in order to attend school and preschool. Students without current immunizations or valid exemptions may be excluded from school until requirements are met. Visit the Washington State Department of Health to learn more about school immunization information for families.

What Families Can Do:

Check your student's immunization status with your healthcare provider or through MyIR Mobile.
Schedule immunization appointments early, as clinics fill up quickly before the first day of school.
Please ask the healthcare provider to upload the immunizations to the state immunization registry.

Medication Authorization and Individual Health Plans

Individual Health Plans (IHPs) allow schools to plan for and respond to students who have life-threatening or other health conditions that may severely impact them at school. It is important for you to communicate with your school nurse to let them know about any health concerns that may impact your student's learning or safety at school. The school nurse will work with you and your student's medical provider to develop an IHP to help your student be safe, healthy, and successful at school. IHPs are required for students with potentially life-threatening health conditions such as diabetes, asthma -which may require the use of albuterol, food allergies - which may require the use of epinephrine, seizures, and certain cardiac, neurologic, or other medical conditions.

Individual health plans must be updated each school year and requires written/signed authorization from a licensed healthcare provider and parent/guardian.

Any student who may need to take medication of any kind at school must have a Medication Authorization Form on file. Washington state law defines medications as any substance used for treatment. This includes oral medications like tablets, pills, capsules, topical medication applied to the skin, eye drops, ear drops, nasal sprays, or any injectable medication. A Medication Authorization Form signed by a medical provider and parent/guardian is required for both prescription and over-the-counter medications. All medication forms must be updated annually.

Immunizations and Health Care Services During the Summer

If you do not have a regular health care provider or if you need help locating a health clinic, contact the following local resources.

Highland Health Center - the International Community Health Services (ICHS) school-based health center is located adjacent to Highland Middle School at 15027 Bel-Red Road, Bellevue, WA.

The Highland Health Center will remain open during the summer for medical and behavioral health services by appointment-only. Students can get required vaccines, sports physicals, routine check-ups and behavioral health services at no cost. Students will need to register prior to scheduling services. Families can register online or call at (425)373-3135, Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Mental Health Resources

While you're planning your summer adventure, make space for your mental and emotional well-being, too.

Care Solace

If you or someone in your family is facing mental health or substance use challenges, you’re not alone. Care Solace, a free and confidential service provided by BSD, is available 24/7/365. Well-Being Tips for Recharging This Summer Break

Step outside and soak it in. Nature has a way of lifting spirits. Whether you're hiking a scenic trail, tending to your garden, riding your bike, or simply lounging under a shady tree — fresh air can do wonders for your mood and creativity.

Reconnect with your people. Summer is a great time to slow down and invest in relationships. Host a game night, plan a picnic, enjoy a backyard BBQ, or just call someone you've been meaning to catch up with.

Get some rest. A steady sleep schedule can make all the difference. Use this season to reset your routine and give your body the rest it deserves.

Prioritize what makes you smile. Start a new hobby, revisit a favorite pastime, or simply spend a few quiet moments doing something that brings you joy. Little pockets of happiness can go a long way.

Always be aware of your surroundings and stay connected with trusted family or friends when out in the community.
If you ever feel unsafe, seek help immediately—whether from a trusted adult or by calling emergency services.
If you see or hear something concerning, report it. It’s important that we look out for one another.
Take advantage of safe community spaces and events available throughout Bellevue this summer.

Water and Boating Safety Tips

Welcome to summer 2026! As your children get ready for summer break, please remember that water activities come with risks. Since 2018, King County has seen a rise in preventable drowning fatalities, with preliminary data showing 25 lives lost in 2025. Many of these tragedies could have been avoided with proper supervision and life jacket use.

This summer, let’s make water safety a priority! The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, King County Sheriff’s Office, Public Health – Seattle & King County, and King County Department of Local Services recommend the following tips:

Water Safety Tips

Wear a life jacket. Use a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)-approved life jacket when swimming or boating. Look for the label as non-approved life jackets are often available through popular online retailers. Learn to choose the right life jacket.

Be extra cautious when recreating in rivers and lakes – they are fed by mountain run-off and stay dangerously cold all summer. Jumping into cold water can lead to muscle failure and shock within seconds or minutes, even for strong swimmers.

Learn to swim and self-rescue. Free and low-cost swim lessons are available in Seattle and throughout King County for children and adults. Visit Swim Seattle, No More Under, and the YMCA.

Supervise children near water at all times. Remain within “touch distance,” appoint a dedicated “water watcher” and rotate the role every 20 minutes to prevent distraction. Phone down, eyes up! Download a free Water Watcher Card.

Avoid alcohol, cannabis, or other impairing drugs while swimming, boating, or supervising children.

Obey all safety signs and closures. Check beach conditions before you go.

Learn CPR. Visit kingcounty.gov/cpr for training information on hands-only CPR.

Open Water and Boating Safety Tips – Especially for 2026!

In December 2025, floods across Washington drastically changed the landscape of our rivers. Rivers may appear calm but have strong hidden currents, new root balls, log jams, and boulders. If you choose to recreate in our rivers and lakes, we advise:

Always wear a life jacket, even if you have been there before. There may be new and unexpected hazards due to the flooding. And remember, life jackets are mandatory for children under 12 on vessels under 19 feet.

Don’t boat or recreate in the water alone. Boating and swimming in open water is better with a buddy and life jackets!

Inform someone of your recreation plans, including when and where you expect to launch and return.

Bring a dry bag with food, water, and warm clothes.

Always bring an oar on your vessel for rescues – and remember, if someone is in trouble, REACH, THROW, DON’T GO!

Choose safer swimming options, such as a lifeguarded public beach or pool.
