BREADCRUMB

Connections Classroom

The Transition Program serves a variety of student levels, abilities and needs.  Within the program, there are 2 general types of services that students can receive (and often can receive a combination as outlined by their individual needs in their IEP).  While the majority of our students participate in the Evergreen classrooms, we also have a Connections classroom.

Transitions Program

Evergreen Connections
6 Classrooms (8-10 per caseload) 1 classroom (15-20 per caseload)
Students are needing more full-time service or at least to start Students are needing very part-time services (3-10 hours per week)
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. No group instruction, primarily 1:1
Some students do obtain paid jobs early on (and/or attend college classes) All students are DVR only (competitive employment only)
Participate in weekly nonpaid jobsites 1 year of participation (typically)
Group instruction as well as 1:1 Students must be pretty independent or have capacity to be independent
2/3 of classrooms are DDA eligible, 1/3 DVR only No school bus
1-4 years of participation

Connections serves students who are in additional need of transitional services beyond their senior year of high school (typically for those 5th year seniors) but generally do not require 3+ full additional years . These students typically would only attend Connections 1 year (though they may attend less or more than 1 year depending on their IEP needs). Specially Designed Instruction & coursework primarily focuses on supporting post-secondary goal exploring in the areas career exploration, accessing DVR (Department of Vocational Rehabilitation), metro training, college prep, APEX for credit retrieval, etc. ALL Connections students are enrolled on a part-time basis and must be able to secure their own transportation to school (metro training is available). No Connections students are enrolled in full time school as if they have been referred to Connections, then this means they are students who do not need a full-time school day. Most students in Connections are likely their own guardians and not DDA eligible.  For questions about Connections, please contact Monica Chapman or Jen Strehle.
