Overview

On April 20, 2023, the Bellevue School District’s Board of Directors adopted a new policy regarding sustainability. BSD is a leader among districts in the state and in the nation to institute such a policy. Policy 6811 states that the Bellevue School District seeks to minimize our impact on the environment and increase our individual and collective understanding and agency of how we can work toward an ecologically sustainable school district, community and world.

The policy is framed using the Four Pillars of Sustainability: district resources, environmental safety, collective understanding and student voice. To implement the four Pillars of Sustainability, the sustainability committee created a sustainability plan in the 2023-2024 school year to begin implementing in 1, 3, 5, and 10 year goals. This year, the advisory group is assessing the goals created last year, understanding the work being done this year at the district, school, and student level, and adjusting the plan as needed for the future.
