World Language Competency Credits (WLCC)
World Language Competency Credit is a way for high school students to earn credits for a language they already know. In order to earn competency credits in World Language, students will demonstrate proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing. These assessments are aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency levels. A maximum of 4 World Language credits may be awarded through the Washington's Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Competency Based Credit testing process.

The nationally normed assessments awarding WLCCs are based on language proficiency and test what individuals can do with language in terms of speaking, writing, listening and reading in real-world situations in a spontaneous and non-rehearsed context. If you are unable to read or write the language, this test is not appropriate for you. If you can read, write and speak Spanish, you can take a test with all questions in Spanish without any English.
Listening: I can understand ideas on familiar topics expressed through phrases, short sentences, and frequently used expressions. For American Sign Language (ASL) this skill involves understanding signed language.
Reading: I can understand the main idea and some details in simple texts that contain familiar vocabulary.
Spontaneous Conversation: I can exchange information with another person about familiar tasks, topics, and activities.
On-Demand Writing: I can write simple descriptions and short messages and request or provide information on familiar topics.
