Elementary Program
The elementary school model for the Spanish Dual Language Immersion program follows an 80:20 model. In kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2, students spend most of their day speaking Spanish. Then starting in grade 3 and continuing until grade 5, there is an increase in the amount of time spent delivering instruction in English. Students spend half of the day speaking Spanish.
Specialist instruction time is not calculated into the total number of minutes. Specialist instruction includes music, art, library, physical education and computer science.
The Bellevue School District also offers preschool families the opportunities to take part in the ORCA Spanish Program as an introduction to Spanish language and culture. The preschool program is open to students between ages 3 to 5 and provides instruction in both English and Spanish. The ORCA program is available at each Spanish Dual Language elementary program locations.
