K-5 Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee

The Elementary K-5 Social Studies Adoption Committee recommends InquirEd Elementary Program, Inquiry Journeys for K-5 Social Studies.

Educators piloted both curriculum materials and reviewed the data collected through educator feedback surveys, student feedback surveys, instructional visits, and community feedback surveys. Both sets of curriculum materials were also reviewed using the OSPI Screening Tool for Bias content to assess quality, usability, standards alignment, and cultural responsiveness.

The Elementary K-5 Social Studies Adoption Committee recommended the resources in April 2026. IMC met on May 18th to review the process and unanimously supported committee’s recommendation. The recommendation now moves to the School Board for final approval in June, 2026.

Teaching and Learning Department is seeking a K-5 review committee to provide feedback on curricular materials and pacing for the K-5 Social Studies Textbook Adoption.

Purpose

The purpose of the K-5 Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process and make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based upon objective evidence gathered during the process. The decision will be based on what is in the best interest of our students, alignment with Washington State Social Studies and C3 Framework Standards, and district mission and core values.

Attend scheduled meetings
Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration
Through a consensus process, make a formal recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee
