AP World History - Modern Textbook Adoption

Purpose

The purpose of the AP World History - Modern Instructional Materials Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process and make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based up on objective evidence gathered during the process. The decision will be based on what is in the best interest of our students, alignment with the College Board, our district mission and core values.

Committee Composition

The committee for AP World History - Modern Instructional Materials Adoption will have the following composition:

  • Facilitated by the Social Studies Curriculum Developer
  • High School World History Teachers
  • School Administrator(s)
  • English Language Learner Facilitator or Developer
  • Special Education Teacher or Developer
  • Parent/Guardian(s)

The parent committee members will be selected from the applications submitted.

Adoption Progress

Spring 2024 – Acquire sample texts from several vendors:

  • Strayer – Ways of the World, 5th edition, Bedford Freeman, Worth
  • Perfection Learning, World History: Modern 1200 to Present
  • Stearns – World Civilizations: The Global Experience, Since 1200, 8th edition, Pearson
  • Open Education Resources, World History – AP        

Responsibilities of Parent/Community Representatives

  • Attend scheduled meetings
  • Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
  • Help support informational meetings for parents and community members, as needed
  • Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration
