FAQ for Advanced Placement

The district does not have capacity to serve as a Regional Center for AP exams.  We administer over 8,000 AP exams in May to students who attend our schools and to students who attend private schools and home school who live within our geographical boundaries.  Proof of residency is required.  

The College Board moved the early registration deadline to November in 2019 after their research showed that students’ performance on the exam was improved when they committed to the exam earlier in the year. 

Yes, schools can continue to register students for AP exams until the March deadline at a price of $149/exam, including the $40 late fee levied by the College Board.  This year (2025-26) the College Board deadline is March 13^th because the usual March 15^th date falls on a Sunday.  

The Touchbase payment system will be open to Shop for AP exams until 11:59 PM, March 12.  AP Coordinators will finalize and submit the exam order on March 13.  The College Board closes the exam ordering portal end-of-day March 13 so no  exams may be added online.  No further exam orders will be placed in BSD.

No, the 28 exams that are now in digital format will be the only way a test is administered.  Paper tests will no longer be available for exams administered during the regular testing schedule or for late exams unless the student is approved for an accommodation requiring a paper exam.

Yes, there will be digital practice available in the Bluebook app later this year.  Students will be able to view sample questions and respond to them using the tools in the Bluebook app.  Additionally, students enrolled in AP classes will have access to the quizzes and practice prompts that are available in AP Classroom.  The prompts have been modified to mimic the digital test.  Teachers will assist students to interact with the Bluebook app and prepare for the digital tests as part of classroom instruction during the school year so that there are no surprises on exam day.

For digital AP exams administered in Bluebook, students with extended time (time and one-half,  double time, or more) will have the optional ability in Bluebook to move to the next section of the exam before their full extended time expires, once the standard testing time has passed. While students are encouraged to use all the time that they need and are approved for, they will not be required to stay for their full extended time if they finish testing or are ready to move on sooner.

The Touchbase payment system closes on March 12, 11:59 pm for purchasing AP exams.  AP Coordinators process the orders on March 13 for submission to the College Board.  The College Board closes the online ordering system at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.   No new registrations are entered after March 13, 2025.

January 16,2026 is the last day that requests for accommodations for AP tests will be submitted. 

A student who has a temporary medical or physical condition (e.g. a broken hand) may request temporary assistance if it's needed to complete the exam.  This process should be used only for students who don't have a disability but who need temporary support to test.  

The deadline for submitting requests for temporary assistance is 14 days before the scheduled exam date.
