Bellevue Discovery Family Partnership FAQ

You and your student will work with our team to design an individualized student learning plan that represents 28 hours of learning activities each week. This plan will blend in-person classes and/or online classes from the Discovery Family Partnership with home-based learning activities. Each plan will include weekly student contact with a Discovery Family Partnership Teacher for at least one hour. The exact blend of program class hours and home-based learning hours is personalized to your student, their learning needs, and the flexible learning environment needed for your family.

Yes, our program is open to students living anywhere in Washington state. Families who are too far away to attend in-person classes may build a fully online schedule blended with home-based education as needed to meet student needs.

Site-based and online classes will be offered in the Discovery Family Partnership. Site-based multi-disciplinary, multi-grade level courses will be offered for elementary age students. We will consider input from our learning community when finalizing course offerings.

Some students may qualify for special education services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Specific accommodations and modifications are determined through meetings with our special education teacher and your student’s IEP team, of which you are a member. If your student has an IEP or has qualified previously for special education, we encourage you to reach out to us to start the conversation.

No, unfortunately, at this time we won't have a space available for students to use for online classes.  

No, online class enrollment is not required for this program. Your student’s personalized learning plan can include any combination of in-person, online and home-based learning.

No, site-based class enrollment is not required for this program. Your student’s personalized learning plan can include any combination of site-based, online and home-based learning.

The Student Learning Plan can incorporate a wide range of secular curriculums and types of learning. Our program works to validate student learning in diverse and alternative ways, supporting families in recording many types of student learning.

A community space for families is available during campus open hours. Families may use this space to wait while their student is in class, or for their student to work on projects from non-campus based classes. 

Families may drop-off their student for class, but outside of their enrolled hours, the student must be supervised by a family member.

Students enrolled in the Discovery Family Partnership are public school students in Bellevue School District. Your family does not file an Intent to Homeschool when enrolled in this program. Each student will follow Student Learning Plan, created by their family in partnership with Discovery educators, which includes at least 28 hours of learning activities each week, it may include site-based, online, and home-based instruction with one hour minimum being a program-based class with a Bellevue School District Certificated Teacher. We support students and families in achieving the 28 hours by centering flexibility and innovation to validate student learning in creative ways.

The Discovery Family Partnership and Discovery Learning Lab are located in Bellevue, WA near Bellevue Digital Discovery School and our district offices.
Specific classroom locations will be shared with students after registration and scheduling.
