Our Bellevue School District community recently experienced an antisemitic incident at one of our high schools, and we are aware of social media posts from an outside organizer promoting a student walkout at another school that contain antisemitic rhetoric. These events are deeply concerning and remind us of the importance of ensuring every student, family, and staff member feels safe, respected, and valued. While we support students’ constitutional right to free expression, antisemitism and discriminatory conduct have no place in our schools and are inconsistent with our commitment to building a Beloved Community.
In this message, I share how the district is responding, what families can expect regarding student-led walkouts, and the steps we are taking to uphold both students’ rights and a safe, inclusive learning environment for all. Together, we remain committed to confronting antisemitism, supporting one another, and fostering belonging, dignity, and respect across our schools.
