6111: Tuition
- 6000: Management
Adoption Date: Sept. 4, 2012
Tuition will be charged to all persons age 21 or older who wish to attend the district’s regular educational program. The formula for determining the rate of tuition is fixed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Additionally, tuition may be charged to cover excess costs for full day kindergarten, summer school or similar optional educational programs.
Funding to operate the preschool and childcare program will not be from general fund dollars intended for use by the K-12 programs. Fees for the preschool and childcare program will be established at a level to cover both direct and marginal indirect district costs associated with program operation. All revenue collected will be used only for the program for which it was collected. A portion of these costs may include supply, material and equipment costs which come out of the non- salary budget of the elementary schools housing the programs. These latter costs will be reimbursed to the schools. To assure compliance with this policy, the Board will consider an annual financial report that includes capital costs and analyzes direct and marginal indirect operation costs in comparison with revenues.
The superintendent will develop procedures describing criteria for reduction or waiver of the charges for full-day kindergarten, summer school or similar optional educational programs. These procedures will be communicated annually to interested parents/guardians of potentially eligible children, including parents of students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
Funds from the state basic education appropriation and state school transportation appropriation will not be used to operate the second half day of the full-day kindergarten program.
