Definitions

The definitions in this section apply throughout this procedure unless context clearly states otherwise.

  1. "Parent" means a parent, guardian or a person having legal custody of a child.
  2. "District" means Bellevue School District.
  3. "State" means Washington State.

Entrance Qualifications

Uniform age entry for kindergarten

A child must be five years of age as of midnight August 31 of the year of entry to be entitled to enter kindergarten. To provide a screening process and/or instrument(s) which measure the ability or the need, or both, of an individual student to succeed in earlier entry, the District has adopted the Early Entrance to Kindergarten process.

Uniform age entry for first grade

A child must be six years of age as of midnight August 31 of the year of entry to be entitled to enter first grade. A child not otherwise eligible for first grade entry who successfully completes a State approved public or private school kindergarten whose program standards substantially equal or exceed the State basic education program requirements shall be permitted entry.
