2005: School Improvement Plans (SIP)
- 2000: Instructional
Adoption Date: Feb. 5, 2013
Each school will develop and adopt a school improvement plan or process, with annual review for progress and necessary changes. Plans will be constructed to have three year planning horizons, with one-year, two-year, and three-year goals, and will be updated and revised annually. Each school will submit its plan to the board of directors by annually approval.
Each school improvement plan or process will be data driven and will promote a positive impact on student learning. Each school improvement plan or process will be based on a building self review that includes the active participation and input of building staff, students, parents and community members and is constructed in compliance with administrative procedure 2005P.
Each school improvement plan or process will address the following elements:
- Characteristics of effective schools as identified by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the educational service district (a plan may focus on one or several of the characteristics for up to three years);
- Safe and supportive learning environments;
- Educational equity factors including gender, race, ethnicity, culture, language and physical and mental ability;
- Use of technology;
- Parent and community involvement; and
- Other factors identified by the school community for inclusion in the plan or process.
The school improvement plans referenced in this policy will serve as the annual school plans required by Washington state law, and the board of director approval of these plans will serve as the annual school building approval required by Washington State law.
