Training Today to Prepare for Tomorrow: BSD Student Reunification Jump-Out Team Equips Staff with Skills to Respond During Critical Incidents
The Bellevue School District works to establish a culture of safety and security that provides for a safe learning environment through preparedness and awareness so that all students can acquire/achieve an exemplary education and succeed in college, career and life. In the event of an emergency, the district may be required to release students to parents and guardians through our controlled student reunification process. This organized process protects the safety of the students and provides for an accountable change in custody from school to parent or guardian. If we are unable to reunify at a school site, it might become necessary to reunify students with their parents or guardians at an off-campus location. The BSD has developed partnerships and agreements with several off-campus locations to facilitate the orderly and efficient progression of such an event. For security purposes, potential off-site reunification locations are not shared with the community until the site has been activated for an incident.
The Student Reunification Jump-Out Team in Action
Recently, members of the BSD central office Reunification Jump-Out Team deployed to one of our off-site locations to familiarize themselves with the site, emergency resources available, and to walk through the reunification process. This is part of our ongoing efforts to prepare and equip our staff to respond safely and effectively during a critical incident.
These training efforts show the commitment and preparedness of the Reunification Jump-Out Team, who are training today to prepare for tomorrow!
Important Information for Parents and Guardians
During a student reunification, students will be released only to individuals listed as emergency contacts. You may add or change emergency contacts at any time via the Online Student Verification feature in ParentVUE. Please be sure it is up to date for your students.
There will be a check-in location during a reunification identified with signage. Individuals picking up students will need to have a photo ID. Please be patient through the process, as it will likely take quite some time.
