Suicide Prevention Awareness Month: Resources for the BSD Community
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a great time to share what BSD is doing to prevent suicide in our community.
BSD is proud to offer the Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum to students in grades 7-11 this year, in partnership with the Bellevue Schools Foundation. Parents and guardians will receive a letter explaining SOS via email prior to your student receiving the lesson.
Mental health resources, recorded parenting skills presentations, and more can be found on the BSD Mental Health Services webpage.
If your family needs help accessing mental health services outside of the school district, BSD has partnered with Care Solace. At no cost to you, Care Solace will quickly and confidentially find available mental health and substance use providers matched to your needs, income level, and/or insurance provider. Learn more about this partnership.
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can now be easily reached by calling or texting 988. This information and other supportive resources are now on the back of BSD student ID cards.
We all have a role in preventing suicide in our community. You don’t have to have any special training to ACT to prevent suicide:
- ACKNOWLEDGE warning signs of depression or suicide,
- Show the person you CARE, and
- Tell a trusted adult or professional.
