School Board Recognition Month: A Tribute to Leadership and Advocacy
Nationwide, states mark January as School Board Recognition Month. This month provides an opportunity to celebrate the elected officials who serve their communities by dedicating their time and energy above and beyond their ordinary occupations. This January, and year-round, the BSD community honors our school board — Phil Bloch (District 1), Carolyn Watson (Board President, District 2), Cindy Rogan (District 3), Monica Webster (Board Vice President, District 4) and Jane Aras (District 5) — for the work they do to support our students, staff and families. Our school board directors have a tremendous impact on BSD’s learning community through their key roles in legislative advocacy, policy development and vision setting for the district.
Meet the BSD School Board
Bellevue School District's board of directors work tirelessly to support the BSD community, helping the district achieve its long and short-term goals. Superintendent Aramaki expressed his gratitude for the board directors during a recent school board meeting, sharing:
“School boards have such a tremendous impact on school districts. We have one of the most incredible school boards in the state of Washington. The five of them [school board directors] individually are incredible. Together, they are a remarkable team; they come together with such different backgrounds and personalities to create magic for students and staff.”

Throughout the year, the School Board visits different BSD schools and has the opportunity to connect with and hear from students, staff and families. Pictured above is the Board’s recent visit to Newport High School.
