BSD School Board Named 2025 Board of Distinction
The Bellevue School District is proud to announce that our Board of Directors was recently honored by the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) by being named a 2025 Board of Distinction in the large district category. This recognition program celebrates school boards across the state, honoring their achievements and the extraordinary leadership they have shown in driving the success of their students and communities.
A Focus on Equity-Driven Decision Making
WSSDA reported being inspired by the BSD board’s “innovative and inclusive governance.” This honor can be attributed, in part, to the board’s deep commitment to equity, community partnership, and student voice — supported by the district’s Equity-Driven Decision Making (EDDM) framework. From the development of the 2024-2030 Strategic Plan to the design of the Welcome Center, the use of the EDDM framework helps make sure that every major decision the district makes is grounded in the voices and experiences of those we serve.
Superintendent Aramaki shared his appreciation for the School Board and commended them on the impact they’ve had on the district. He stated,
“Congratulations to our Bellevue School Board on this well-deserved honor. This recognition is a reflection of a Board that listens deeply, shares leadership, and stays laser-focused on what matters most — our students. The impact of EDDM has been huge, resulting in stronger trust, more engagement, real gains in student learning, and a transformation in how we make decisions and involve our community in decision-making as a regular practice.”
According to WSSDA,
“Each of these boards submitted evidence of impactful, sustained efforts that have moved the needle on student outcomes in their communities. Their applications showcased how board decisions over a multi-year window were meaningfully linked to student success, operationalized initiatives, and addressed systemic opportunity gaps.”
