Community Flyer Approval Process

The Bellevue School District (BSD) supports our local community partners by posting digital flyers online and distributing them electronically through our schools. Electronic flyers allow us to leverage technology and provide parents and community members easy access to information of interest.

Approval is required for e-flyers and materials, produced by outside organizations, to be posted on the Bellevue School District website. The District ONLY approves e-flyers that are educational in nature, directed at students and do not conflict with Board Policy. All materials need to be approved, even if it is an exact copy of what has been sent out previously with only date/cost changes.

In order to provide equal access to all of our families, all requests for e-flyers must include submission of the actual e-flyer, plus a copy of the flyer in plain text so that the information on the e-flyer can be accessible on our website in all languages.

Community E-Flyer Submission

The district cannot approve the distribution of any material that:

  • Does not identify or notate the name of a person(s) or organization submitting the flyer;
  • Contains words, images or symbols that are lewd, obscene, vulgar or sexual in nature;
  • Advocates for a specific political issue or viewpoint;
  • Contains language that is proselytizing in nature;
  • Substantially disrupts, or may reasonably be forecast to substantially disrupt or materially interfere with, the educational process or BSD activities;
  • Undermines BSD's curriculum;
  • Advocates or promotes violation of existing laws, regulations or ordinances, or official BSD policies, rules or regulations, or poses a substantial risk of causing a violation of the same through the flyer’s distribution;
  • Places BSD in a non-neutral position with respect to a matter of controversy in relation to which BSD wishes to remain neutral;
  • Contains commercial taglines, logos, advertisements or other promotional material of for-profit entities and commercial activities beyond the service or event being advertised.
  • Out of state or generic mass mailers from national organizations do not meet our definition community organizations and thus will not be approved for distribution

Printed copies of approved flyers

While the district office is no longer approving physical copies of flyers, some schools may elect to accept paper copies of flyers to have at the school itself, usually in or near the school office. Schools who elect to accept paper copies will approve flyers at the school office.  Any paper copies of flyers approved at the school must include the following disclaimer:

"The Bellevue School District does not sponsor nor endorse this event and/or information, nor does the district assume responsibility for it. Inconsideration of the privilege to distribute materials, the Bellevue School District will be held harmless from any cause of action filed in any court or administrative tribunal arising out of the distribution of these materials, including costs, attorney’s fees and judgments or awards."

 Please note, It is the responsibility of the organization to provide the copies to the school.
