From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Tyee Families,

Another school year has come and gone; filled with highs, lows, and everything in between.  I wish our 8th graders the best of luck as the begin their high journey, wherever that may be.  I want to thank the many parents/family members who have volunteered this year, whether through PTSA or otherwise.  It truly does “take a village to raise a child”; and the Tyee village is one of the best by far.  All of this would not be possible without the hard work, dedication and support of this amazing staff.  I truly am blessed to be the principal at Tyee Middle School.  Thank you for a great year and have a safe summer.

Respectfully,

Susan Thomas

End of Year Reminders

  • Please remind your students to pick up their medications from the Health Clinic on or before the last day of school.
  • Lockers have been cleaned out. Students will need to carry any items they bring to school with them during the day.  Please be sure students bring only what is necessary on Monday and Tuesday morning.
  • Thank you for paying fees and fines. We are, however, still missing library books and textbooks.  Any help you can provide in getting those books returned would be greatly appreciated.
  • Be sure to periodically check our website for information about the 2017-2018 school year and our 1-1 Laptop Initiative. https://bsd405.org/tyee/
  • Reminder that our school start time will be 8:00AM next year.

Parents Needed

Next year the District English Language Arts (ELA) team will select a novel for a new unit in Honors 7th Grade Literature and Composition. Our focus is to expand the racial and cultural diversity represented in our current readings and to ensure multiple racial perspectives are not only represented, but honored and celebrated. We are looking for a parent to be on the ELA Adoption Committee. They will need to attend scheduled meetings, read proposed texts, assist in communication to the community they represent and through a consensus process, make a formal recommendation to the Instructional Material Committee.  We would like to identify a parent this spring to give them an opportunity to participate in the reading this summer.

Parent Application: 7th Grade Literature and Composition Committee

Attendance

Reminder:  The last day of school is June 27th for ALL students.  If your student will be absent please be sure to call the attendance office at 425-456-6809.  Students not called in will be unexcused.

Student Fees & Fines

We still have a number of outstanding fees and fines for this school year.  Please check our online payment site to see if your child’s account is up to date.  Yearbooks will be withheld at the end of the year for any students who have unpaid fees or fines.  Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

2017  Youth Link Summer Leadership Academy

Beginning Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28, Youth Link will host a week long youth leadership and community service training for middle and high school students.  The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) provides a great opportunity for students to receive hands-on leadership training, learn about various community organizations, and participate in civic youth leadership and project planning.  Students will also get a chance to participate in a low and high ropes challenge course including helping set up a large community event – the Downtown 6th Street Fair.  Students will work with other students in a team setting as they develop their community project ideas and present their plans at the end of the week.  The week is designed to be immersive, interactive, and most importantly, transformational!

Spaces are very limited so early registration is highly recommended.  For more info or questions, please contact me at your earliest convenience.  Thank you very much and we look forward to seeing you at YLA!!
