Plan Now for Fall 2017

January is the time to start planning for September. Families interested in open enrollment or choice schools must apply by February 10, 2017. Additionally, every neighborhood school hosts a parent information session for incoming Kindergarten families. Most schools do not accept Kindergarten registration until after their information session.

Mandarin Dual Language at Jing Mei Elementary

Jing Mei teaches Mandarin Chinese and English using dual language two-way immersion model. Two-way immersion means student enrollment in the classes is balanced between native Chinese speakers and students who speak other languages such as English, Spanish or Hindi.

Spanish Dual Language Program

Students from various language backgrounds learn together, with instruction delivered in two languages. In the early grades, instruction is 90% in Spanish. By third grade, the day is divided 50-50, Spanish/English. Students should plan to enroll for the full six years of elementary Dual Language instruction in order to receive the greatest benefit.

Spanish Immersion Program at Puesta del Sol Elementary

Students in the Spanish Immersion Program are taught the standard Bellevue School District curriculum, but receive instruction in Spanish. They learn to understand, speak, read and write Spanish in addition to English. Classroom teachers have native or near-native ability in the Spanish language and are chosen for their skills and their commitment to the goals of the program. By 5th grade, students from Puesta del Sol test at average or above grade level in core academic areas.
