Dear Kindergarten Families,

                Welcome to Puesta del Sol Elementary!  We hope each of you enjoy a beautiful summer leading up to the start of the 2015-16 school year! We wanted to share with you information about upcoming events and explain how placement for kindergarten students is determined. 

Puesta del Sol Office Opens:  Monday, August 24 at 9:00 AM

In preparing for the first day of school, some families may still have some paperwork to turn in to the office, particularly immunization forms.  If you have any paperwork that needs to be submitted, the Puesta del Sol Main Office is open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM beginning Monday, August 25. Additionally, should you need additional assistance from our Main Office please call 425.456.6100.  

NEW: Pre-Kindergarten Conference and Assessments: August 11th, 12th, 13th between 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm please sign-up for a date and 15 minutes time slot on SIGN-UP GENIUS for your students’ beginning of the year conference and assessment. SIGN UP ASAP as spots will fill up quickly. Please be on time.

Back to school Ice Cream Social & Bus Ride:  Thursday, August 27 at 6:00 PM

On Thursday, August 27, Puesta del Sol Kindergarten families are invited to our annual Back to School Ice Cream Social where families can pick up their child’s Kinder Camp assignment (which will be the first 4 days of school only), enjoy ice cream, take a short ride on a school bus, and meet the other Kindergarten children. 


  • At 6:00 PM, Kindergarten Introduction in Gym

    • Hear from the four K teachers

    • Get Kinder Camp color and room assignment*

    • Drop off supplies (See list below.)

    • Find line-up and classroom for first day of school

      * To receive your child’s placement you will need to complete the school district’s emergency release form. Please be prepared with emergency contact information.

  • At 6:30 PM, kindergarten families will be invited to enjoy ice cream and meet other students

  • At 7:00 PM, students are invited to take a short bus ride. 

Kindergarten Placement:  Kinder Camp

Each year, to have the same intentionality and thoughtfulness in the general education Kindergarten classroom placements as we have in placing students entering grades 1 – 5, we hold a Kinder Camp for the first four days of school. During this first week, all Kindergarten students are assigned to one of three color-coded classrooms (half-day remains with normal schedule). Students will remain in those assignments throughout the first week of school. Throughout the week, each Kindergarten teacher will rotate through these three classrooms engaging the students in a variety of academic and social learning activities. This will allow the teachers to get to know all of the Kindergarten students and allow each student to work with each teacher.  Additionally, we will do some activities as an entire Kindergarten group to learn how the students interact with classmates across classrooms.

At the end of the week, the Kindergarten teachers will meet to determine classroom placements for the remainder of the year. Half-day student placement will not change. These placements, which will begin on Tuesday, September 8th, will be emailed to families on Friday, September 5th.  Our goal is to ensure that each student has a highly supportive and positive learning environment for the school year.

Kindergarten Curriculum Night:  Wednesday, September 9th from 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Kindergarten Curriculum Night will be in students’ final classroom assignment. This evening offers families an opportunity to meet with and review the classroom’s procedures, curriculum and expectations for the year. We strongly recommend that families attend this evening as it offers key insights into the kindergarten learning trajectory as well as an opportunity to learn more about your child’s classroom.

Suggested Kindergarten Supply List for Puesta del Sol


A sturdy backpack-regular size, no wheels (bring only the 2nd week of school to your child’s final assigned classroom)

10-12 WHITE glue sticks

1 box of regular water based markers (not the thin ones)

1 box of tissues

1 box of latex-free Band-aides

2 boxes 24 count box of Crayola crayons (classic colors)

1” WHITE 3 ring binder with interior, horizontal pockets on both sides

2 packs of dry erase markers

4 pink school erasers (no pencil top erasers)

4 packages of unscented baby wipes

1 box of gallon size zip-lock bags

1 box of quart size zip-lock bags

Please DO NOT label any of these items with your child’s name. Only label your child’s backpack.

Kindergarten Preparation Packet: Please have your child trace and cut the dotted lines pages.  Have them color and write on the others. You can print as many times as you would like. Sra. Perez - Spanish Camp for Elementary Grades - This camp is geared towards helping incoming K - 5th grade students maintain and improve their Spanish over the summer break. PM only, lunch time supervision is available if your child is attending Campo Risa in the morning. Contact instructor.

Testing in to Puesta del Sol

Please use the  Sign up Genius to register your child for testing consideration. The number of seats that are open will be determined by the school principal. We are at one out/one in status in Grades 1-5. In-district residents have priority in testing over out of district residents. Siblings of enrolled students in Grades 1-5 at Puesta del Sol will have priority in placement. The testing is administered in Spanish. Waiting lists do not transfer year to year.

Make Payments Online with Touchbase

We are now offering a new Point of Sale website, called TouchBase. This is another convenient way for parents/guardians to be able to purchase school related items and view and pay for student fines and fees.

From the TouchBase website online payments for fees, field trips, donations and library fines which are linked to your student’s account are now being accepted. You can also view receipts for items previously purchased. In order to access the Point of Sale you need to visit the following site:

Once at the site you will need to use the login ID and password for one of your student. You will have a login for each student to purchase items via their student account. If you do not know your student’s ID please contact your student’s school.

The default Login ID is the child’s student id (e.g. 012345) and the default password is the child’s last name (Last names are proper case e.g. Smith).

Once logged in you can change your password by clicking the “your account” link in the top right hand corner of the page.

Testing & Enrollment

Update June 22, 2015
Testing dates have been finalized for June.  If space exists-the next opportunity to test in to Grades 1-5 will be during the last week of August.  We are a one out/one in school. If a student moves over the summer, we will notify families that we will conduct a lottery and arrange testing during the last week of August.

Openings in Grades 2, 4 & 5 have been filled  by in-district residents.  
Due to the number of spaces an out of district lottery was not necessary at this time.  
If enrollment for 15/16 changes the next testing session or lottery (if needed) will take place end of August 2015.  

Update:  June 5, 2015-Seats are available in Grades 2, 4, and 5 only for 15/16 school year. Parents of in-district residents will be contacted shortly to prove residency.  A lottery will be conducted next week-June 8-12 for Grades 2,4 and 5 only.  In-district residents ONLY will be considered at this time. Families that are waiting for Grades 1 & 3 will be notified if any seats open up over the summer.  Please do not call the office.  Parents will be contacted by email and phone once this process is finalized.

The Sign-up Genius will accept names and grade information for families that want to test in a student for the 15/16 school year.  There is no need to call the office to report that you signed up as an email goes directive to the administrator of Sign-up Genius.
