Purpose and objective:

The committee will select either the Holt or Discovering textbook series for
Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The recommendation will be made according to
the decision plan based upon the objective evidence gathered
during the adoption process.
The instructional material selected by the committee will be presented to the
Instructional Materials Committee (IMC). The IMC then makes a
recommendation to the School Board for adoption.
Target date for the recommendation
to the IMC: March 2010
Adoption Committee:
The committee is made up of teachers,
parents, math curriculum representatives and administrators. The
teachers were selected for the committee by their respective departments.
The teacher representatives include one math teacher from each middle school,
two from each high school and one from the International School and Robinswood.
The representatives from the ESL, the Special Education and the Gifted Programs
were selected, after consulting with the directors of those programs, to provide information and
represent the interests of their students during the adoption process. Knowing that parents provide valuable insight and perspective regarding the
materials the committee considers, four parents were chosen by the
superintendent's cabinet based on their
application. In
addition, one building administrator and the three secondary mathematics
curriculum developers/coaches serve on the committee.

Duties of adoption committee:
- Serve as a communication
link to constituents
- Evaluate data regarding
the piloted materials
- Examine alignment of each
textbook to state and national standards
- Explore current research
on teaching and learning mathematics
- Parent team members will
help facilitate informational meetings for parents and community members
- Make a recommendation to
the IMC
