Standards-Based Assessment and Reporting
If your student is enrolled in geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, intro to calculus or AP statistics, it is likely that his/her teacher is utilizing standards-based assessment and reporting (SBAR) to measure your student’s progress.
The math teachers, administration, Program Delivery Council (PDC) and PTSA have been committed to addressing students and parents’ questions regarding this unfamiliar grading practice. In an effort to answer and respond to your questions, we have gathered resources and continue to monitor and create the most efficient and effective systems to clearly communicate what students know and are able to do.
For example, the student senators serving on the PDC sought collective feedback from their peers to identify improvements that could be made to the system (see PDC Minutes from Jan., 2012). Based on this feedback, for example, starting second semester, math teachers will provide a separate, quiet room for reassessment.
