On June 13, 2010, Newsweek  released its annual report of top U.S. high schools and we are excited to announce that five of our high schools ranked in the top 100 high schools in America.  Go to Newsweek article > 

Newport part of national study on excellent schools Oct. 5, 2009


Newport High School in Bellevue was selected by Successful Practices Network as one of three schools in the country to participate in a research study that will seek in-depth understanding of the critical factors that produced the school’s excellent results.

The Top of the Class:  On June 9, 2009, Newsweek  released its annual report of top U.S. high schools and we are excited to announce that five of our high schools ranked in the top 100 high schools in America.  View ranking of BSD schools or Go to Newsweek article > 

Newsweek has ranked* public schools since 1998, when Washington Post Education Reporter, Jay Mathews, devised a ratio by taking the number of AP and IB tests taken by all students and dividing them by the number of graduating seniors to arrive at a Challenge Index.

Over the course of a school year, the Bellevue School District and individual schools are featured in the NEWS.  This section of the site has been created to provide links to these news stories.  

 

  • Five Bellevue high schools are tops in America and best in state (3/11/08) 

    Bellevue School District high schools continue to hold top spots according to rankings by various news publications. Since 2003 all five of Bellevue’s mainstream public high schools have consistently placed among the top two percent in the nation. Most recently US News and World Report published its ranking. On this list Bellevue’s International School received a ranking of #5 and Newport High School also received the Gold Medal designation with a ranking of #44.

  • Bellevue School District wins National Civic Star Award for Washington State:

    NationalCivicStar.jpgThe Civic Star Award is awarded each year to one school district in each state by The American Association of School Administrators.  The award honors districts that have formed meaningful partnerships within their communities—partnerships that represent effective practices in collaboration that add value to the education process.  The AASA reports that it selected the Bellevue School District because of our effort to increase student achievement in mathematics and science through our partnership with community organizations including The Boeing Company and the Bellevue Schools Foundation

    In the letter informing us of the award, the AASA President, Eugene G. White writes, “Your program, A School/Community Partnership Success Story about Student Learning, exemplifies the value of community involvement to promote academic achievement for the students of your district.”

     

    The award will be officially announced by the American Association of School Administrators in the next issue of their professional journal and will be formally presented to representatives from the winning districts at a ceremony on March 3 at the National Conference on Education in New Orleans.  Also at the conference, the national winner selected from the state winners will be announced.

    Photography goes digital in big way at Newport High School - Aug. 2, 2008


    Newport High School has gone digital, trading in darkrooms for printers and film for state-of-the-art technology. The AP Digital Photography class has since gone on to become a thriving program that fosters a blend of creativity and technology.  read more . . .
