Using grant funding from the Bellevue Schools Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bellevue School District has established a partnership with John Bransford of the University of Washington and the University’s Learning in Informal and Formal Environments (LIFE) Center. Dr. Bransford is one of the primary authors and editors of two very useful and scholarly books, How People Learn and How Students Learn. He is broadly recognized as one of the nation’s foremost experts on the application of brain science to learning. The Bellevue School District’s definition of curriculum includes not only the content that is taught to the students, but also the way the content is presented and the criteria by which the learning is measured. John Bransford and his nationally recognized team of experts on the application of brain science to learning will work closely with us as we continue the curriculum development and refinement process. To help facilitate the smooth process of curriculum implementation, administrators and curriculum developers are presently participating in a series of in-service workshops about the new learning theory.
