A Partnership Success Story
In 2003, a school district in the community of Bellevue, Washington just east of Seattle, began working to completely transform the way they teach mathematics to all K-12 students. To align their curriculum with the best international, national, state and local standards for academic achievement for all students, the Bellevue School District partnered with a group of distinguished educators committted to solving a serious and worsening problem in American education.
Today the most powerful nation on earth - is lagging behind a number of other countries in K-12 education - notably in the critical areas of math and science. This situation is documented in the 2003 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study - or TIMSS. Every year throughout the nation, a large percentage of students are graduating from high school unprepared for college - and career success.
This video presents a look at this challenge and what one school district is doing to change it.
