Boundary Review Committee

Purpose

The Boundary Review Committee (BRC or commonly referred to as ‘the Committee’) serves in an advisory role to develop a district-wide school assignment recommendation for the Superintendent to be implemented in 2013-14. This recommendation will deal with boundaries for individual schools within the overall school district boundaries and will not include program placement recommendations. The members of the committee will consist of the principal and/or assistant principal and two parents from each school in the district with geographic boundaries. Committee members will receive an initial proposal from the District Technical Team to serve as a starting point for discussion and development. Working forward, members of the district Technical Team will gather information and data to assist committee members in their role of evaluating various issues and values in order to develop a district-wide school assignment recommendation to the Superintendent.

Committee Selection

Parent committee member selection was through an application process. Information and application forms were available on the District web site at www.bsd405.org . Additionally, application forms were also available at individual school office locations with geographic boundaries. Applications were due by 4:00 pm April 6, 2012. Applications were reviewed and selected by a committee of district staff and community members. Alternate committee members, to serve on the committee in the event a standing member must resign their role, will be selected by the President and Officers of the respective school Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) organization of the individual school in question. In the event a school has no PTSA, selection will be made by the President of the Bellevue School Board based upon recommendations from the school Principal, the school community in question and the Bellevue Council of the PTSA.

Role & Responsibility

Individual committee members will review information, data, presentations, and other materials to assist in working with other committee members to develop a district-wide recommendation. Committee members will be responsible for attending all meetings, reading material provided, considering perspectives other than their own, bringing perspectives from their individual school community, and working collaboratively with fellow committee members. Working in concert with the principal and other parent representative, committee members will be responsible to report back to their school community to assist in providing regular updates so parents can be updated and informed. Members must be able to make themselves available to respond to questions from their school community in order to share information and promote an open process.

Technical Team

The district Technical Team is the support team for the process. They are responsible for answering committee questions, preparing materials for the committee, and generally supporting the process. Technical committee members will be on-call for the process.

Meetings

Meetings will be scheduled and held on a regular basis and will occur at 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Wilburton Instructional Service Center (WISC) unless otherwise noted. Meetings will be tentatively held every other Wednesday beginning August 22, 2012 and occur through early 2013.
