Happy Summer, Charger Families! I hope you have enjoyed time this summer resting, relaxing and spending quality time with family and friends. Personally, I enjoyed time off in July working house projects and vacationing as a family in our travel trailer in Hood Canal, the San Juan Islands and Eastern Washington. Good times!
While summer is not quite over yet, it’s important for prepare your child for a healthy and positive school routine. The next few weeks are a good time to begin adjusting your family’s schedule to match the school schedule. As the start of school approaches (Aug 31), please find an opportunity to express your support of school and the importance it will play in your child’s life. Having family conversations about the excitement of returning to school will help your child have a smooth transition back into the school routine.
In the newsletter below, you will find important information about the start of a new school year. Right time. Right place. The school doors unlock each day at 7:40 am. Class begins at 8:00 am and concludes at 2:30 pm (12:10 pm on Wednesdays). Student SAFETY is of utmost concern so we ask that students do not arrive on campus before 7:40 AM. Limited supervision is provided prior to the start of the school day. Maps will be available at various sites around the school, as well as volunteers, to help students locate classrooms.
Upon arriving at school:
- K-2 grade students enter the main building and head directly to the cafeteria to be picked up by their classroom teacher when the warning bell rings prior to the 8:00 start time.
- 3-5 grade students line up by grade in the covered area near the playground on the north side of the school.
Jubilee Service Day on August 26th. Jubilee Service Day is an annual event in August which brings together people in the eastside community to serve at local public schools and homes. Started in 2005 with one church serving at one school, this day has grown to involve over 3,000 volunteers, 20 schools and at least 20 homes in August 2017. Cherry Crest teachers and staff deeply appreciate volunteers that help prepare our school and classrooms for the start of school. Volunteering at CHERRY CREST. Family involvement is a critical aspect of our school success! If you are not currently a volunteer in our school community, we invite you to find a way to get involved. The research overwhelmingly demonstrates that parent involvement in their children’s education is positively related to academic achievement. The research also shows that the earlier in a child’s education that the parent/caretaker gets involved, the more powerful the effects will be. In addition, your child will be excited to see you active in the school house and it is just plain fun to spend time with children. There are many ways to get involved. If you need ideas for where you could start your volunteering journey, visit the PTSA table during Teacher Meet & Greet, contact your child’ s teacher and/or the main office. If you haven’t volunteered before, it will be necessary to complete a BSD Volunteer application packet available here.
Medications at School. If your child needs to take any medication during the school day OR have medication stored in the school’s clinic, please make every effort to bring in the medicine and complete paperwork on or before the first day of school. For additional questions, you may contact our school nurse, Ms. Houden at email@example.com or inquire at the front office.
Computer Science. STEM. Social Emotional Learning. VIBES. College & Career Planning. Arts, Enrichment & Innovation Grants. Music support. These programs, and many more, make our District stand apart as a model of excellence in public education. Programs that distinguish our schools every day, at every school, are available because parents like you join forces to make a collective impact through Bellevue Schools Foundation. Together, parent leaders and community members enable the Foundation to make targeted investments that move the needle and transform basic education to BEST.
When it comes to ensuring that your child—and every Bellevue School District student—enjoys leading edge, innovative, and effective educational programming, contributing to Bellevue Schools Foundation is an easy choice. I hope you’ll consider supporting both the Foundation and our school’s PTSA this fall. Your contribution translates directly to programming that elevates and enriches education districtwide. Whether you can give $5 or $500, your investment makes these programs possible.
You can learn more about how your student benefits from Foundation parent-funded programs at bellevueschoolsfoundation.org.
