A Message From Coach Cochran:
It is my honor and privilege to be the next head coach for the Bellevue High School Girls Varsity Soccer program. Some of you I already know from being an 11 year resident of the Enatai neighborhood, past youth coach and president at Bellevue Youth Soccer Club; or our paths have crossed during business or community involvement in Bellevue. I currently live in London, England. My family is moving back to Bellevue in mid-July. After three years abroad, we are looking forward to being home.
In going through the BHS interview process, I got to meet Head JV Coach Kay Chikos. I’m very pleased that Coach Kay will be returning next season in her previous role within the program. I will lean heavily on her experience and expertise and I’m excited that she’s remaining with the program.
Coming into a program that has achieved so much success over the past three years is very different than managing a program in need of a rebuild. By all accounts, the current state of BHS girls soccer is very very good. All due respect and thanks to my predecessor Coach Dorman, Coach Walter, Coach Kay and the rest of the coaches, staff, boosters and administration for leading the program to three consecutive league championships, an impressive overall grade-point average, and plenty of positive anecdotes of positive team spirit. As we go through the goal-setting process with the coaches and players for next fall, I think you will find that we will have similar ambitions.
If you’re curious about my background, here’s the abstract version:
As a player, I represented the USA on national teams for over seven years, mostly at youth levels. I was an All-American at both Santa Clara University and Harvard College; and a three-time All-American in high school and Oregon state player of the year. I also had a very short professional career.
After my playing days were over, I got a job, went to business school, got more jobs, and started a family (wife, 3 kids, dog and chickens). I’ve been coaching youth soccer for over 11 years including stints as assistant coach for the BHS boys in 2013, various teams at the Bellevue Youth Soccer Club, ACS International School in London, and most recently as head coach for a girls U13 team at Claygate Royals Football Club in England. I love this game. And coaching is my passion.
