The superintendent is the top executive or Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the school district. The superintendent is hired by and reports to the School Board. Responsibilities of the superintendent include:

  • Leading the implementation of the District mission and key initiatives,
  • Keeping the school board informed of issues, needs and operation of the school system,
  • Providing oversight of day-to-day decisions about educational standards and student achievement,
  • Planning budgets and allocating resources,
  • Hiring and supervising senior staff,
  • Hiring principals, and
  • Acting as the point person for interactions and collaboration with government and partner agencies.
Process & Timeline

Stage 1: Board Input & Preparation

November 2016
  • Ray & Associates planning meeting with the board and individual board member interviews
  • Begin preparing information for the district promotional flyer and online application form with the district liaison representative(s)
  • Contact constituents and stakeholders for input meetings on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30

Stage 2: Profile Development & Process

November – December 2016
  • Post survey link on district website and invite community to provide input on the development of desired characteristics for Bellevue’s next superintendent
  • Ray & Associates meet with constituent and stakeholder groups to collect input on desired characteristics for Bellevue’s next superintendent
  • Desired characteristics online survey closes Dec. 1 at 8 a.m.
  • Board finalizes superintendent profile for the promotional flyer and online application form

Stage 3: Recruiting & Screening

December 2016 – February 16, 2017

Stage 4: Candidate Presentation

February – March 5, 2017
  • Ray & Associates develops and finalizes interview questions and procedures with the board
  • Top candidates are presented to the board and semi-finalists are selected for the first round of interviews
  • Conduct private interviews of semi-finalists
  • Identify finalists for the second round of interviews
