Chris Marks began her service to the Bellevue School Board in March of 2004 when she was appointed to fill the position vacated by Steve Miller.  She was elected to begin her current term in 2005 and has served as the Board’s Vice President.  Ms. Marks has been the Board’s liaison to the Bellevue Schools Foundation for two years.

Ms. Marks has always been an active volunteer in the community and was inspired to become a strong advocate for children with the birth of her oldest child in 1980.  As a member of Temple B’nai Torah, for six years she oversaw the temple’s monthly soup kitchen at Crossroads Community Center.  She works part time at Swedish Medical Center and has done volunteer fundraising for their Foundation.

The major portion of Ms. Marks’ volunteering has been for the various schools in Bellevue where her children were enrolled.  She moved to Bellevue with her husband and children in 1993.  Three of her four children were graduated from Bellevue schools and the youngest is a junior at Bellevue High School.

Ms. Marks has done immunochemistry research in the field of transplantation for twenty-five years, during which time she managed laboratories at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago and at Yale University.  Since moving here Ms. Marks has worked in and managed the Laboratory for Transplantation Biology for the Organ Transplant Department at Swedish Medical Center.

“The older I get, the more aware I become of our nation’s shortcomings in public education, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a contribution to this critical institution.  I am very fortunate that my position on the board brings me in continual contact with young people and with an amazing collection of professionals who supply the talent and dedication that make our district a leader in education.”
