Betsy Johnson was appointed to the Board in May of 2010 to fill the position vacated by Judy Bushnell. Ms. Johnson will be the Board’s liaison to the Bellevue Schools Foundation, an appropriate role since prior to joining the school board Ms. Johnson was a trustee of the Bellevue Schools Foundation and mostly recently finished serving a term as President.  The Bellevue Schools Foundation raises money to help fund programs that provide the best possible learning opportunities for all kids in Bellevue Public Schools

Ms. Johnson and her husband are the parents of four children who attend Bellevue schools.  Two of their children attend Medina Elementary and two attend the International School.  Ms. Johnson’s passion for education began when her oldest child started kindergarten.  She has taken on numerous volunteer roles at her children’s schools, including President of the Medina PTSA.  She is also active with various educational advocacy organizations.

Ms. Johnson is a former Microsoft marketing executive, where she was responsible for product marketing, strategic planning, budgeting and public relations.  She has a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.

I have found my volunteer work in education very engaging and inspiring whether it is working with kids at school, coaching soccer, or talking with teachers, principals and other educational advocates. My family has always placed an importance on education as the means to opening up opportunities to greater success.   I am committed to the idea that ALL the children in Bellevue receive a high quality education so that they can be successful in college and work.
