Role and Responsibilities
School Board Directors are collectively responsible for providing governance setting and communicating direction, creating conditions to achieve that direction, holding the district accountable for student learning, and engaging the community in education. To this end, Bellevue School District Board Directors participate in a number of activities, including, but not limited to: attending regular board meetings two (2) afternoon/evening per month, attending school visits once per month during the school year, participating in board workshops and other special board meetings as needed, serving as liaisons to community partner groups, serving on board committees, attending school/community events, meeting with parents, staff, community members and students, participating in board development activities, attending the Washington State School Directors Association annual conference, attending key school events (e.g., graduation ceremonies), reviewing reports and materials about the work of the district, and various other supporting activities. The time each board director invests can vary widely depending on what events are in progress at any given time, but may average about 8-10 hours per week.
