Thank you for taking the survey regarding middle and elementary school start times.  Your input was invaluable and provided insights to issues and concerns that must be addressed before any changes can be considered.  As a result, no broad changes will be made to school start times in the 2017-18 school year.

In an effort to better serve families and students, some changes will be made at specific schools based on information provided by those communities. In addition, the District will continue to look at other factors that may have a slight impact to the schedule for elementary schools. More specific information will be forthcoming.

For your reference, the survey was based on the following scenarios:

One of our goals is to have all middle schools start and end at approximately the same time each day. The district also wants all schools to start no earlier than 8 a.m. We are currently exploring middle schools starting at either 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. If we decide to change the start times for Chinook, Highland, Odle, Tillicum, and Tyee, at least four elementary schools would be impacted by either scenario.

Scenario 1

Middle schools start at 8 a.m.

The schedule for all middle schools would be from approximately 8 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. On Wednesday, middle schools would dismiss at approximately 12:30 p.m. Middle school tutorial would continue to be an additional 30 minutes at the end of the school day.

Ardmore, Cherry Crest, Phantom Lake and Stevenson are the four elementary schools that would be affected if middle schools start at 8 a.m. Their schedules would be changed to approximately 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and school would dismiss at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Scenario 2

Middle schools start at 9 a.m.

The schedule for all middle schools would be from approximately 9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. On Wednesday, middle schools would dismiss at approximately 1:30 p.m. Middle school tutorial would continue to be an additional 30 minutes at the end of the school day.

Bennett, Puesta del Sol, Somerset, and Woodridge are the four elementary schools that would be affected if middle schools start at 9 a.m. Their schedules would be changed to approximately 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and school would dismiss at approximately 12:10 p.m. on Wednesdays.
