Each year, 5th grade classroom teachers instruct students on the topics of Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) and HIV/AIDS. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to request that your student be excluded from these lessons but you must first preview the HIV/AIDS curriculum at a parent information meeting in order to exclude your student from instruction*.

We are holding two parent information sessions for 5th grade parents and guardians:

Saturday, March 25, 2017
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
WISC Rainier Room
12241 Main Street, Bellevue, WA 98005

Monday, March 27, 2017
6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
WISC Rainier Room
12241 Main Street, Bellevue, WA 98005

If an exclusion from some or all of the HIV/AIDS or FLASH lessons is requested, a separate form must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian for each of the lessons.

We consider you to be the most important source of information for these topics. We look forward to a partnership in educating children together. The curriculum will be taught in the classrooms beginning in April through early June, exact dates may vary with each school. Please contact your student’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

You may review the written curriculum by logging into Brightspace. Videos that are shown in class will only be previewed at the information sessions.
