In the Bellevue School District, all students are already accelerated in mathematics by one year due to compacting 6th – 8th grade math standards into 6th and 7th grade, resulting in all students prepared for Algebra 1 in 8th grade. By following the typical Bellevue School District math progression, all students will be prepared for AP Calculus or AP Statistics in their senior year of high school. However, some students may want even further acceleration.
By successfully completing a Bellevue School District Summer Program or an approved outside learning experience, students will accelerate in mathematics without missing any critical math learning progression components. Students wanting to accelerate their math sequence in an effort to access higher levels of math prior to high school graduation have the following options:
|Course||Summer Options||Credits Earned||Grade Earned|
|IMT1||Accelerated IMT1 Summer Program||1||Yes|
|Online Materials & Placement Test*||0||No|
|IMT2||Accelerated IMT2 Summer Program||1||Yes|
|Algebra 1||Accelerated Algebra 1 Summer Program||1||Yes|
|Outside Learning Experience||1||No|
|Geometry and Beyond||Outside Learning Experience||1||No|
Students in the Gifted Program should refer to the Gifted Math Placement page for more information.
*Online Materials & Placement Test
The Curriculum and Instruction Department supports authentic acceleration by taking the course during the school year or attending the BSD Summer Program course. However, if there are extenuating circumstances that prevent authentic course acceleration, families may request online materials to be completed independently by the student. No credit or grade will be earned for this option and the student will need to take a placement test on July 28, 2017 to determine readiness for IMT2. Please submit this form by March 24, 2017 to request the online materials and register for the IMT1 Topics Test.
