Congratulations to Odle Middle School’s Space Potatoes rocketry team, which was named National Champions at the 2016 Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) National Finals in Washington D.C.! In July, they will travel to London to represent the United States at the International Rocketry Challenge, where they will compete against teams from the United Kingdom, France and Japan.

The five-student team, comprised of Mikaela Ikeda, Larry Jing, Karl Deerkop, Srivatshan Sakthinarayanan and Stephanie Han, outscored nearly 5,000 students on 789 participating teams in this year’s competition. The students were awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships, as well as funds for Odle Middle School.

“These students demonstrated incredible ingenuity and a passion for aerospace and STEM education,” said David F. Melcher, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association.  “We are proud of their accomplishments and wish them luck on their quest for the international title!”

The Space Potatoes were joined by two other Bellevue School District teams at the National Championship. Newport High School placed 15th and the Space Carrots, also from Odle, placed 19th.
