Congratulations to Newport’s orchestra and Tyee’s advanced orchestra programs!  They will perform at the Washington Educators state conference in Yakima next February, along with Central Washington University’s symphony.

“Being asked to perform at a conference like this one, where we are being recognized as an exemplary orchestra program for the state of Washington, is a tremendous honor,” said Newport’s orchestra teacher, Christine Gero.

The orchestras were selected by the Washington Music Educators Association.  Both groups will be featured on a Friday night concert in front of music teachers from across the state.  Newport has performed at this prestigious event previously, while this is Tyee’s first performance at the conference.

David Drassal, Tyee’s advanced orchestra teacher, said, “It means a lot to us to be invited to represent our schools and the Bellevue School District on stage.”

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
