Congratulations to Tillicum Middle School who was recognized at the Embassy of Spain in Washington D.C. as one of the top International Spanish Academy (ISA) schools in the nation.  Tillicum was awarded second place in the middle school category for “Colegio del Año” or “School of the Year.”

“This award recognizes Tillicum Middle School’s ISA program as an advanced language program that shows excellence in content and language integrated learning methodology using Spanish,” said Tillicum Principal, James Peterson.

The competition is organized by the Embassy’s Education Office.  It is open to public, private and charter schools nationwide that seek to improve foreign language competence in their students.

“The award confirms what we here at Tillicum already know; we have an incredible team of Spanish language teachers providing high quality instruction and learning for students in a manner unsurpassed throughout the country,” said Peterson.  “This award recognizes the overall strength of our advanced language programs in Bellevue.”

At the award ceremony, Tillicum also received two other certificates.  One certificate was from Grupo Anaya in recognition of academic excellence and grants the school $400 in books.  A second certificate was awarded by Instituto Cervantes and grants the school two licenses for virtual classroom, an online Spanish classroom.  Students can use virtual classroom to improve their Spanish skills on a daily basis with this program.
